Newcastle under Lyme Cemetery is the last resting place of just over a hundred servicemen and women who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars. Most were local from the Newcastle area but there are also graves of men who travelled half-way around the world to serve. Your knowledgeable local Guide will tell you the stories of some of the Newcastle men who braved the skies over Germany, a local woman in Bomber Command who lost her life in a tragic flying accident and the story of a young Canadian who died a long way from his home in British Columbia. Along side the many CWCG graves there you will also see some military graves of service personnel who died in other more recent conflicts.
The tour lasts approx. 60 mins and covers about 1500 metres on paths and grass with uneven ground and slopes. There is wheelchair access for most of the tour.
Parking is available nearby. There are on-site facilities and toilets. Please bring water if required.
Please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
Only assistance dogs are allowed in the cemetery.
Please note there can be last minute cancellations. This can be due to various reasons including illness, site issues and weather. We will email you as soon as we can, but this could include the morning of the tour, so please check your emails prior to leaving for the tour.
The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) aims to actively engage all communities with the work of the CWGC by telling the inspiring stories through education and outreach projects.
The CWGF is an independent charity registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales (1171947) and Scotland (SC051982).
