About this Event

Central Wyoming College is excited to host our first High School Welding Competition on Tuesday, May 19 in the CWC Welding Shop.

This one-day event is designed to be a fun and friendly competition for high school welding students of all experience levels. The competition gives students an opportunity to test their skills, connect with other welding students, and experience the CWC welding program firsthand.

Our goal is to get students excited about welding careers and the skilled trades while also showcasing the training and opportunities available at Central Wyoming College.

Competition Levels

Students will compete in one of three skill levels based on their experience.

Level 1 – Beginner
For first-year welding students. Competitors will complete a 2F T-joint with both single and multipass welds using SMAW, GMAW, or both.

Level 2 – Intermediate
For students who have completed multiple welding classes. Competitors will perform a workmanship test in a variety of joint designs (T, Corner, Lap, etc.) and welding positions using SMAW, GMAW, or both.

Level 3 – Advanced
For advanced welding students (typically juniors and seniors). Competitors will complete a 3G V-groove with backing weld using SMAW. *This will be visual inspection only, we will not be doing destructive testing.*

Oxy/Fuel Cutting Competition

Students may also participate in a "best-cut" oxy/fuel cutting competition.

Registration Note:
Participants must select one competition level during registration and indicate if they will compete in the Best Cut oxy/fuel cutting competition. Students may only compete in one level. Participants not registered for a level in advance will not be allowed to compete, but may attend as spectators.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded in each competition level.
