Cut from the Same Cloth: Adapting Fashion for Every Body

Event Description:

As part of Design Week, The Useless Project presents "Cut from the Same Cloth: Adapting Fashion for Every Body," a hands-on workshop dedicated to making sustainable fashion more inclusive. The fashion industry often excludes diverse body types and individuals with disabilities, and sustainable fashion is no exception. Our mission is to bridge that gap, empowering everyone to take part in the circular fashion movement, regardless of size, shape, or ability.

In this 4-hour rolling workshop, participants will bring garments they already own—whether they don’t fit properly or need modifications—and learn adaptive fashion techniques. We’ll focus on making these items work for every body type, with expert guidance from our experienced team.

What to expect:

Hands-on demonstrations on altering garments for specific needs, including:

• Hemming sleeves for wheelchair user
• Adding panels for plus-size clothing
• Taking up trouser legs for amputees
• Adjusting garments for non-standard sizes

Sewing basics: We’ll be running a beginner-friendly sewing workshop where attendees can learn foundational skills and basic alterations like hemming pants.

Expert help: Our seamstresses will be available throughout the event to tackle more complex alterations or provide advice for alterations that may require additional work.

Who is this event for?
This workshop is open to anyone who has struggled to find clothes that fit well or wants to learn how to make sustainable alterations. Whether you have a disability, a unique body type, or simply want to engage in the circular economy, this event will give you the skills and confidence to adapt your wardrobe.

Event Format:
The workshop will be divided into two sessions:

Session 1: 4:00 PM - 5:45 PM

Session 2: 6:15 PM - 8:15 PM
