Current Perspectives on Defamation and Defamation Law ReformAbout this Event
Australian defamation law is in a state of flux. The High Court in Google LLC v Defteros [2022] HCA 27 altered the law as to publication, while a working party with a mandate of the Council of Attorneys-General is tinkering with statutory reform that has not been implemented in Western Australia. This complex area of law is becoming more difficult to comprehend.
In that context, this event will feature two leading Sydney-based authorities on defamation at a rare, in-person event in Perth. The lineup:
• Professor David Rolph, University of Sydney
• Sue Chrysanthou SC, 153 Phillip Barristers
• Michael Douglas, Consultant at Bennett and Senior Lecturer, UWA
• With moderation by Martin Bennett, Founding Principal, Bennett
Space is limited to attend in person.
Registration also available to watch online via TEAMs (link to be provided).
