Our ride to New Abbey is a gently paced outing and is about 25 miles largely on quiet back roads, but with two very short stretches along the A710. We can either head out along the Old Military Road and down to Beeswing before riding down past Loch Arthur towards New Abbey, and then back via Kirkconnel Flow, Mabie Farm Park and the cycle path along the Dalbeattie Road, or we can do the route in reverse, depending on the mood of the group. The former means a longer ride before stopping to eat, but does avoid a very sharp climb just before New Abbey.
Rides continue regardless of the weather, unless the ride leader decides it would be dangerous (or no fun) – we normally don’t ride if there are weather warnings or snow and ice on the roads.
There’s no need to book but if you use Facebook you can sign up for the event via our Facebook page. If you’ve any questions or aren’t sure if this ride is suitable then email us ([email protected]) – or you can check out our FAQ (https://cyclingdumfries.wordpress.com/.../winter-rides.../).
You don’t need to be a member to come on a ride, but if you attend regularly (three or more a year) we ask you to join, to ensure you are covered by our insurance. Your membership also supports our year round work – prices start from just £5 per year.
