Dance Instructor: Jimi Parker | Jimi fell in love with cumbia music in the late 1990’s and has been grooving to the rhythm ever since. He has studied with many amazing teachers and dancers on both sides of the border and travels regularly to Mexico to connect and continue to learn new skills. He taught Cumbia for many years at Social Dance Studio in South Minneapolis and has worked with several sonideros and musicians over the years.
What should I expect?
Expect lively cumbia dance music every evening with occasional live performers during the second half. In addition, there will be circle dancing (rueda) using cumbia music. Jimi and friends have been working on a cumbia/rueda fusion series and there will be an opportunity to learn this dance as well.
What should I wear?
The only requirement is comfortable clothing, soft soled shoes and a desire to have lots of fun. This is an energetic dance so bring a water bottle if possible. There is a fountain in the lobby and plenty of space in the beautiful studio to relax and recharge.
