About this Event
Presented by Misleór Festival, Promenade and Galway Traveller Movement, in partnership with the National Museum of Ireland Traveller Collection
Step back in time to the old Traveller campsite for Culture Night 2025 and experience the rich traditions, creativity and community spirit of Ireland’s Traveller culture.
Taking place in Terryland Forest Park (next to Galway Bay FM, H91 CC97), this event brings Traveller history and traditions to life in a space where Traveller families once camped, and where the Cant language still echoes in memory. This gathering invites both Traveller and settled communities to come together, share in traditions, and build new connections through culture.
Explore traditional wagons and a handmade wattle tent full of activity and storytelling. Learn about tinsmithing, paper flower making, griddle bread baking and tent building. Learn words from Cant, the Irish Traveller language, and take part in songs, stories and conversations with members of the Traveller community. Hair braiding, face painting and hands-on crafts will make it a lively, welcoming space for all ages.
This is a free, family-friendly and fully accessible event. Come along and be part of a vibrant celebration of Traveller culture - past, present and proud.
