Experience the rarity of māori performing arts, dance and drama with Awe Tū Bayside, a local Kapa Haka group that builds young people's cultural knowledge of traditions indigenous to New Zealand/Aotearoa. All are welcome to join in when the group visits the library! Expect to be introduced to the poi (tiny ball on the end of string), warriors performing the haka (war dance) singing, commentary and more. Nau mai haere mai (all are most welcome)!Come and learn about the art of Kapa Haka (traditional dance, arts and drama) and whaikōrero (speaking) as well as artefacts, language and customs. Awe Tū, founded in 2023, is dedicated to strengthening māori identity by providing a fun, safe space for tamariki (children) in Bayside to learn about te reo me ōna tikanga (language and customs) through performing arts.
