Description
Embodied Presence… Embodiment connotates connection with the ongoing flow of experience and sensation in one’s own body, awake to this moment in this form as it meets this moment. Presence connotates a quality of availability to this moment, of being “here” for it.
In embodied presence, there is a quality of being awake to both interoception and exteroception simultaneously. We are mindful of our own inner experience, and also to our environment. In the relational field, we are simultaneously aware of both self and other, able to tend the experiences of both simultaneously. In the healing professions, this is an essential capacity.
Research in therapy modalities indicates that it is not the particular method so much as the skillfulness of the practitioner that leads to successful outcomes. In the language of mindfulness, we consider this in terms of embodiment and presence, often maintaining that the most effective intervention in the healing professions is your own embodied presence.
In this weekend-long program:
- We will train in the cultivation of our own embodied presence in the context of our work with clients and patients in the healing professions.
- We will explore theoretical frameworks, mindfulness practices, somatic experiences and engagement with other participants as we deepen into how to reliably cultivate this capacity.
- This work is attentive to inclusivity, ethics and trauma-informed practice.
- This course is designed for those working in the fields of mental health and medicine but may be of equal use to those working in adjacent fields.
- All interested parties are welcome.
