Excerpt from "Bomba" by Gabriela Spears-Rico;
The landlords set off bombs
of overnight pesticides
las tias have to find temporary quarters.
The next morning, our tias sweep up dead cucarachas by the tonelada
shoveling loads of blown off antennas and insect torsos into a recojedor
and then the trash can.
Deep down we know
we will do this again in a few weeks.
We might do this again tomorrow.
They will never perish
this is their land:
Cucarachalandia
They are entrenched into the soil.
Las cuacarachas demand their land back, laminate floor back, concrete crevice homes, everything back, siempre.
