Originating from the Congo region of Africa and preserved in Cuba through the Bantu-influenced Palo traditions, Makuta embodies strength, community, and the connection between drum and dancer. This workshop will take participants deep into the energy of the yuka and makuta rhythms, focusing on body coordination, grounded movement, pelvic isolation, and the conversation with the drum — the essence of Afro-Cuban expression.
