“Crossing Boundaries: Portraits of a Transgender West ” highlights the lives of specific individuals who did not conform to gender norms, connecting those histories to contemporary aspects of today’s LGBTQ+ community. Among those featured are Harry Allen, a heart breaker who was wanted by the police; Dr. Alan Hart, a medical doctor and Northwest novelist; and the mysterious Mrs. Nash, a laundress to the famed Seventh Cavalry (and an officer’s wife). Also on exhibit during our visit: "Portland Past and Present" (Using historical photographs from OHS’s research library paired with contemporary photographs, this exhibition illustrates how major architectural and geographic features in Portland have, or have not, changed over time.) Please "dress" from the past, if you are so inclined.
We will meet for lunch first at Urban Creperies (gluten-free crepes are available)
Admission: Free for Multnomah County residents with proof of residency; $14 for adults; $12 for seniors 60+
