While people today are familiar with solstices and equinoxes, many ancient people (including the painters at Paint Rock!)also celebrated the days halfway in between them, called cross quarter days.February 3rd is a cross quarter day, and we’re offering tours both on the 3rd, concluding at 1:00 PM and the following Saturday, the 7th, beginning at 10, and concluding around 1. The tours will showcase the solar interactions on that day (weather permitting), and include interpretations of the stories in the paintings.
The main characters we’ll see in these stories are the Hero Twins, and their enemy, 7-Macaw, who are common figures in southwestern mythology.
