Cronenberg's Garden Exhibition

SomoS Arts in collaboration with residency curator Lindsay Inglis is pleased to announce the

exhibition Cronenberg’s Garden featuring the works of visual artists Emeli Theander and Aline Schwörer.

The exhibition explores the changing relationship between humanity and the natural world through the

visual dialogue of sculpture and painting. Building upon the themes such as human body fascination physical transformation technology surrealism and obscurity present in the artistic work of Canadian director David Cronenberg the exhibition examines the complexities of the body’s relationship with the environment. Theander’s paintings conjure dreamlike landscapes in which figures blend into their surroundings dissolving the boundaries between the individual and the external world. In contrast Schwörer’s sculptures evoke artifacts of an imagined future that visualize the Anthropocene where human actions have led to the disappearance of traditional ecosystems.
