About this Event
This Critical Incident Stress Management course is designed for all public safety personnel to provide a comprehensive and systematic approach to dealing with critical incidents and trauma. It delves into the topics of critical incident stress, including assessing crises and their effect on the people involved. It helps students understand why different incidents require different responses, timing, and individual or group intervention. Students learn why Critical Incident Stress is considered an occupational hazard and identify various types of stress in themselves, co-workers, family, and others. Students are provided with proven tools and techniques for developing coping skills. Students practice the development of critical incident stress debriefings and defusings. This course further explores the response of public safety peer support groups and critical incident stress management teams to traumatic events and ways to improve the overall outcome for those involved.
