Critical AI Literacies: Roundtable Discussion & Exhibition
About this Event

Join MMU’s Digital Society (DISC) research group for a roundtable discussion and exhibition exploring the political, social and cultural impacts of AI and digital technology.
In 2024, members of DISC launched a new initiative – the AI literacy working group – to address the urgent need to understand our engagement with AI in various areas of our lives.

In 2025, DISC formed the AI Literacy Lab, dedicated to developing AI Literacy toolkits across different disciplines (sociology, criminology, media studies, philosophy, fashion, education). These toolkits were made in collaboration with the South Asian illustrator and graphic recorder, Sonaksha Iyengar.

DISC will explore the risks and responsibilities that come with adopting AI tools into education; new challenges that come with automating major political and business decisions; the impact of AI on creativity; its environmental impact and much, much more.

Come along to Chorlton Library during this year’s Festival of Libraries to learn more about the rapidly changing world of Artificial Intelligence. The roundtable discussion will take place on the 11th June, and the exhibition will be on display from 10th-12th June.

About the Digital Society Research Group (DISC)

DISC is led by Adi Kuntsman, Dan Joseph and Jessica Elias, exploring all things digital from a range of social science and humanities perspectives. Their members take part in pioneering work on platform governance, visual digital research, game studies, health informatics, digital harms, digital environmental sustainability, AI literacy, and qualitative digital methods.
