Hereford Cathedral will be preparing for the start of Advent with a fascinating display of cribs from around the world in College Hall on Saturday 22 NovemberThe collection of nearly forty different depictions of the nativity scene belong to the Reverend Prebendaries Andrew and Jill Talbot-Ponsonby who have kindly arranged this display to help raise funds for the cathedral. The assortment of cribs has been collected throughout the years, from all corners of the world and shine a light of the different ways that the birth of Jesus is portrayed in different countries.
The first crib which began the collection was purchased in Jerusalem in 1972 during a trip to the Holy Land. From there the collection grew with pieces from many countries, including Bavaria, Tanzania and even Peru. The cribs also vary in their size ad medium, with the smallest being made from glass, and the largest being carved wood from Oberammergau.
The Reverend Prebendaries Andrew and Jill Talbot-Ponsonby said, "We have been collecting these cribs as we travelled to many places, as special souvenirs of our time there; as reminders of our shared faith with peoples of other countries and cultures. We look forward to sharing them with you."
Cribs from around the World will take place in College Hall on Saturday 22 November from 10am – 4pm. Entry to the exhibition is by donation and refreshments will be available to purchase and enjoy during the event. All proceeds will be donated to Hereford Cathedral (Registered Charity Number 1205397).
There will also be an opportunity for those attending the Cathedral Eucharist on Sunday 23 November to view the exhibition during Sunday Coffee.
