Join us for a fall hike along Wissahickon Creek. We will meet at the Flourtown Day Use area in Fort Washington Park and will join up with the Green Ribbon Trail to walk alongside (and cross) the creek. We will hike about 4 - 5 miles along the Green Ribbon Trail to Wake Coffee in Ambler PA for a coffee/snack break (outdoor seating available) After our snack break, we will continue back to our starting point. Note that the coffee shop will probably have bakery items and beverages for sale, but not full lunch food, so please bring along lunch items of your choice.
The trail is mostly flat and easily traversed, but there are several crossings and obstacles that you should be prepared for including several creek crossings on spaced rocks, and a ladder (will need to go both up and down, since this is an out and back hike). Be prepared for muddy conditions - waterproof hikers recommended, along with poles if you would like to use them on the crossings or wooded trails. This hike is rated moderate for pace and terrain, but vigorous for distance and obstacles.
We will meet at the Fort Washington State Park - Flourtown Day Use Area which is off West Mill Road. Bring along water, lunch and snacks for a 5-hour hike -- coffee stop at about 1/2 of the way through the hike. Restrooms available at the start of the hike and at the coffee shop. Please let leader know if you have any medical conditions (allergies, etc.) that could affect your ability to complete the hike. Steady rain cancels, please check status before 7am the morning of the hike or contact leader with questions.
In order to comply with Pennsylvania Youth Protection Laws, all children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. This policy applies for all events offered by the Delaware Valley Chapter as well as any other chapter events within the state of Pennsylvania
