About this Event

Join RACE.ED in collaboration with Edinburgh-based creatives Jj Fadaka and Aliya D to explore black queer and indigenous creative approaches to dreaming of alternative worlds.

Edinburgh poet and facilitator Jj Fadaka will be holding a creative mask making and storytelling workshop to bring your playful queer(ying) soul into the human world. Through science fiction writing prompts, masking and unmasking our inner selves, we'll talk about the black queer experience, what it means and feels like to be at the intersections of joy, struggle and 'deviant' identities. This workshop is open to all identities but will draw on black queer experiences and centre inspiration from the black radical tradition. Bring your knowledge and wisdom to play in a world of your own making!

Bio: Jj Fadaka is a radical feminist, writer and lover based in Edinburgh, they use world building tools and creative learning to share political education and plots for a better world.

Aliya D will take us through the active art of Indige-dreaming; re-imagining self, soul and identity through the creative practice of day dreaming. Using mediums of poetry/open mic spaces and sound we’ll explore bipoc queer experience through the lens of imagination and joy and creativity as a tool for survival.

Bio: Aliya D is poet, day-dreamer, woman in STEM based in Edinburgh holding space for intersections between poetry as praxis and the grounding through spoken word.

This workshop will take place in the Pollock Room which is on the First Floor of St Leonard's Hall. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided.
