As we wait for the Voting Rights Act of Rhode Island to be introduced, we’re getting organized so general assembly members are starting to hear from their constituents about how important this bill is to them. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA) is a vital piece of federal legislation that protects our right to vote in this country. Now in 2026, we know that all of our federal rights are in danger, and if the VRA gets overturned many Rhode Islanders could lose so many more of their rights we have fought so hard to secure.
The Womxn Project is known for our creative activism and we are bringing it to the RI VRA too! Join us on this day as we deliver over 1000 postcards from the constituents to their General Assembly Members both in the House and Senate. Delivery will be either personally or to their mailboxes so they see the names and the attention being paid to this important civil right bill on an election year like we have never seen before.
Then, once the 'bell' has run, join organizers and coalition partners in the rotunda for a community photograph and hear a short speaking program as we prepare for push to make the bill into law.
Speakers will include:
• Victoria Gonzalez from The Womxn Project Education Fund
• Angela Lima from The Women’s Fund of Rhode Island
• Shahidah Ali of the Rhode Island Coalition of Black Women
... and one more to be confirmed.
