About this Event
In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore how oil pastels and mixed media can be layered to create expressive, textured artwork. We’ll experiment with color, blending, and mark-making while using simple materials to bring personal stories and imagination to life. Designed for beginners, this session encourages play and creative freedom. You’ll walk away with both new techniques and a unique piece of art that reflects your own voice.
Workshops are recommended for people ages 12 and over. Children under 12 years old are welcome with parent/guardian supervision. Please get a ticket for each person (incl. all children).
The workshop is pay what you can! Suggested $20 - $30 to support facilitator fees and supplies.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:
Lauren B. Sanchez (aka Artist LBS) is a multidisciplinary artist who brings together oil pastels, paint, and layered textures to tell stories of identity, heritage, and empowerment. Her work has been featured internationally, from Lululemon and the Paralympics to Spotify, and often celebrates womanhood through her work. With a passion for making creativity accessible, Lauren facilitates workshops that invite participants to experiment, play, and express themselves freely through art.

Alcove Centre for the Arts (alcoveartscentre.ca) is a non-profit organization based in Calgary, AB which aims to make art more accessible and promote a vibrant local arts industry. We curate and cultivate community art spaces for Calgarians to engage in art and creativity while building a platform for emerging local artists.
Alcove is a Recreational Art Space open to the public providing free art supplies and instruments to stimulate creativity. The space also acts as a gathering place for workshops, community events, and social meetups. Come visit and get creative!
