For the past decade our Creative Heritage Programmes have offered communities the opportunity to explore, preserve and promote marginalised histories. Our project participants work with archives, alongside artists, archive and museum professionals to interrogate and creatively interprate the past, gaining skills in research, writing, archiving and public presentation. Our Creative Heritage Day will showcase the creative and professional work generated from our projects so far, including the George Garrett archive, Great War to Race Riots, Liverpool 8 Law Centre, Liverpool Ant-Racist Community Arts Association archive and most recently the Dorothy Kuya archive project.
Highlights of the event include:
A living library: Guests are encouraged to have a conversation with one of our project participants, or ‘books’, at our living library, as well as explore copies of archive material relating to each of our projects.
Create your own Heritage: Guests are invited to bring along their own family archive materials! This could be letters, photographs and other memorabilia. Archivists Vicki Caren and Helena Smart (Liverpool Record Office and the National Archives) will be on hand to give advice around preservation and research.
George Garrett agitprop play performance: A ten-minute play, discovered in the archives of George Garrett during the 2013 project, will be performed by project participants the ‘Garretteers’.
Listening station: Guests will have access to the collection of short films produced through our Creative Heritage projects as well as the Dorothy Kuya archive podcast.
Panel discussion: Join archive industry professionals in discussing the importance of preserving marginalised histories, such as those covered in our Creative Heritage projects, with more guests to be announced.
