Join Creative Manchester for a half-day of creative workshops exploring arts-based methods in participatory research. This afternoon event will feature interactive workshops delivered by Cartwheel Arts and Made by Mortals, as well as a panel discussion on the subject of creative participatory research, featuring organisational leaders, freelance artists, and academics.
Discussion will include:
- How can arts-based research methods offer space for conversation, collaboration, and connection?
- What are some of the rewards, and challenges, of working in creative participatory projects?
- How can we facilitate meaningful co-production?
- How can we address issues of accessibility, inclusion, and equity of voice within participatory research?
This event is run by Creative Manchester, and supported by the Participatory Research Fund. A vegan lunch will be served upon arrival.
Made by Mortals Workshop:
“Made By Mortals workshop will be an interactive guide through our approach and theory of change using an abridged version of our latest audio workshop STUCK as an exemplar. The workshop will explore:
· How we use participatory arts and the principles of coproduction to overcome some of the barriers and challenges underrepresented communities experience through ‘traditional’ research processes.
· How and why we use fictional characters, co-creation techniques, and centre lived experience knowledge alongside other capacities such as imagination, care, and humour in our work.
· How and why we make the work participatory and immersive in the way it is made and in the way it is consumed and how that process brings about change and supports the mobilisation of research findings.
· How we have brought about real-world change, including the personal development of the marginalised communities and researchers involved, as well as system and behavioural change within health and care practice, strategy, and policy.”

Join Cartwheel’s Director Hebe Reilly and Emotional Wellbeing Practitioner Salma Khalid for an engaging session exploring their approach to delivering high quality participatory arts activities alongside robust mental health support with diverse communities in Rochdale and beyond.
