Presentation:
New legislation at the state and local level requires many California employers to make critical changes in the operation of their businesses pertaining to their workplace safety and hiring practices. This presentation will focus on key points under the new Workplace Violence Protection Plan requirements going into effect July 1, 2024 and updated “Ban the Box” requirements including:
- Who is required to have a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan.
- Creating and updating Workplace Violence Prevention Plans.
- How to use the State’s prototype plan.
- Learn what needs to be in place by July 1, 2024.
- Documentation and record keeping requirements relating to workplace violence.
- Overview of new or updated “ban the box” requirements in California, unincorporated areas of LA County, and the City of Los Angeles.
- Requirements for conducting “individualized assessments” of employees with past criminal convictions to promote workplace safety and equitable hiring practices.

Speaker Bio:
Aspen Ferber-Paxson is an associate attorney in the Employment Practice Group at Lewitt Hackman Shapiro Marshall & Harlan in Encino, California. At Lewitt Hackman, he has advised employers on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and represented businesses of various sizes in litigation matters including wage and hour, PAGA, discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination claims.
Mr. Ferber-Paxson earned his Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School, earning First Honors and recognition in multiple concentrations. Mr. Ferber-Paxson attended the University of California, Irvine, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and repeatedly made the Dean’s Honor List.
