About this Event
Mary Brydon-Miller is a leading figure in international action research, working especially with participatory action research processes. She has been and is involved in a range of action research relationships with people in the UK.
In this session, Mary will offer some experiences of using participatory action research and Critical Utopian Action Research in Future Creating Workshops. Her accounts will include work to inquire into re-envisioning the role of higher education in tackling the climate crisis through action research, and will be widely applicable to initiatives intending to contribute to organizational and social change.
One case example will be the Flooding in Appalachian Streams and Headwaters (FLASH) initiative, a transdisciplinary National Science Foundation funded project that uses participatory action research methods to promote community -engaged learning to enhance local flood monitoring and response.
The session will offer a very abbreviated Future Creating Workshop experience, to give participants an idea of what the process looks like in practice.
