Stephanie is a fashion designer and artist with a focus in women’s wear and fiber art. She studied Fiber Science and Apparel Design at Cornell University where she built a strong background in pattern drafting, draping, and garment construction. Stephanie loves to share her passion and enthusiasm for fashion design with her students. With experience teaching introductory courses while in school, Stephanie welcomes all levels of knowledge, and encourages an open, exploratory learning environment. Her goal is to help all students build the foundation and skills needed to express their personal creative vision.

Class Description

This course is designed for true beginners to get an introduction to pattern drafting by creating fundamental bodice patterns, called slopers, made specifically to each students measurements.

Pattern drafting is one of two core methods of creating patterns for clothing. A sloper is a basic block pattern that can be used as a template to create more complex patterns. A set of slopers gives you a starting point to build from to create any design, and ensure you’re starting from a point of desired fit.

We will work together to create the basic bodice sloper set (bodice front, back, and sleeve) perfect for you. With this, you will get a feel for pattern drafting, while creating a lasting template that you can experiment with in the future!

Material Fee

The materials fee for this class is $15. This is separate from the ticket price and is to reimburse the instructor for any tools or materials used in this class. This will be paid once, directly to the instructor at the start of the first class meeting. This instructor accepts payments in cash or through Venmo.

Class Goals

Students will gain:

- A basic background of flat pattern making as a practice for garment creation

- An understanding of how slopers can be used to create more complex patterns and designs

- Students will start by taking their own measurements, translating those measurements onto pattern paper to create a front, back, and sleeve sloper

- From there, students will learn how to true their patterns to create the finalized bodice sloper set

- Students will leave with their sloper set and a core understanding of where it can take them in their pattern making journey!

Material Supplied

Pattern paper, basic rulers, drafting supplies (pencils, tape, erasers). Rulers will be supplied for use during the class, if you would rather purchase or bring your own rulers, please do!

Students Should Bring
