Join the editors of The LAM for a day of creativity at our first Create-a-Thon fundraiser on Saturday, April 12 from 1-4pm in the Big Meeting Room at the Mississippi Mills Public Library (Almonte Branch)! Bring your creativity, a used magazine (or newspaper!), your favourite mug & writing tools (all optional).
This create-a-thon will focus on two of our magazine's content types: short stories and poetry (look out for our second Create-a-Thon coming in May for creative non-fiction and art!)
1pm-2pm: Learn how to write Blackout poetry and try your hand at it!
2pm-3pm: Bring your own projects and we will sprint/share the space to create together...seperately. Any and all projects are acceptable.
3pm-4pm: Brainstorm and outline a short story with us. Ever wanted to be a part of a writer's room? Here is your chance!
This event is drop-in. Feel free to join us whenever you are free. You are not obligated to stay for the entire create-a-thon.
Tea and coffee will be provided. Feel free to bring snacks to share. Entry is by donation and all donations go toward printing and distributing the LAM around Lanark County.
The LAM is a grassroots literary arts magazine that will publish local short stories, poetry, art, creative non-fiction, and essays. Our first issue is themed darkness and light. The full call for submissions can be found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1S3izlulDQ3i_oa3uV3eEsGDlvSM2VdiZ/view?usp=drive_link The deadline is 31 May 2025.
