Columbia Repertory Ballet's 5th Anniversary Spring Gala is here and we could not be more excited for you all to join us. Come support your fellow dancers as they showcase their artistry, skill, and mastery for dance. Our program will feature works from Shane Urton, Therese Gahl, Melissa Hale Coyle, and CRB Co-Founder Clara Monk!
Curious about our choreographers this semester?
Shane Urton is an American choreographer and dancer based in Belgium. As a choreographer, he has pursued the craft at every stage of his performing career. Originally from North Carolina, Shane began his dance journey at age 15. At age 16, Shane was accepted to University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He began his career as a dancer with the Joffrey Ballet in 2009. In 2019, Shane joined the Royal Ballet of Flanders and is an artist of the company to this date. CRB is thrilled to be performing ‘Now Listen’, this spring!
Therese Gahl is a freelance contemporary ballet choreographer, teacher, and artist from Alexandria, Virginia. This spring will be the second time she works along Columbia Repertory Ballet, recreating one of her latest works, ‘Paper Trails’. With a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from George Mason University and former member of Ballet West II, Therese has performed with prestigious companies in the Washington, DC region including Gin Dance Company, Movius Dance, Teatro de Danza Contemporanea, and Motion X Dance.
Melissa Hale Coyle grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she received her early training from Roman Jasinski and Moscelyne Larkin. She joined American Ballet Theater after graduating from highschool. Coyle later joined Cincinnati Ballet where she performed principal roles, and Tulsa Ballet Theatre where she was principal dancer for six years. For the past 34 years, she lived in Charlotte, NC, where she was the Co-Artistic Director of Charlotte City Ballet Company. CRB is excited to showcase her work, ‘Nightbook’ this spring!
Clara Monk studied on the Artistic Director’s scholarship at Berkely Ballet Theater before dancing with the school of Oregon Ballet Theater and OBT II. She then danced at Columbia Unversity and Barnard College with Columbia Repertory Ballet and Columbia Ballet Collaborative. Clara is currently a freelance dancer in NYC and has collaborated with Claudia Schreier and Columbia University, Dance Theater of Harlem, and UNCSA.
