About this Event
Workshop Overview
Wonder why some children seem to always struggle to know where their bodies are in space? They frequently stand very close to friends, bang extra hard on toys, and run into furniture or walls. Children often seek out extra sensory feedback to satisfy the way their brains process stimulus. Because some children do not yet have healthy sensory processing, their brain and body are not in synch! They may need more physical input to feel grounded and calm.
Wonder how to help support these children? Join this workshop to learn more about Proprioceptive Sensory Processing through an introduction to research, exploring best practices, and learning easy ways to help sensory seeking kids learn and play.
Washington State Early Learning Professionals: This workshop is eligible for 2 STARS training hours for live attendance - have your STARS I.D. ready during the event!
This training will be held both in-person and livestreamed via Zoom. It will also be recorded and shared afterwards with all registered attendees.
About the Presenter
Leah Gotz (she/her) is an early childhood educator teaching 1.5-to-2-year-olds at Hilltop Children's Center. Hilltop’s mission is to transform early childhood education through play, collaboration, and reflection. We do this in our classrooms with children, through our partnerships with families, and by offering professional development for educators.
Before joining Hilltop, Leah was a lead teacher of 2-to-3-year-olds at SEED Early Childhood School at Temple Beth Am, an inclusive, Reggio Emilia inspired preschool program. Prior to teaching, Leah worked with non-profit curriculum organizations including Committee for Children, and served as a Policy Committee Community Representative for Denise Louie Head Start.
Leah is also the proud co-parent of a 5-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter. Her son is neuroatypical and is a sensory seeker who loves big body play, sensory stimulation and often struggles with self-regulation, which makes this topic a passion of her's both professionally and personally.
