The Craic of Dawn is back, offering another unforgettable early-morning adventure – all in support of the Glen of Imaal Irish Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team. As a voluntary organization, we rely on this event to raise essential funds for maintaining our team’s vehicles, equipment, and base – ensuring we can continue to operate safely and efficiently when people need us most.
What’s in Store?
This year’s route takes you on a 10/11km hike through the breathtaking trails of Avondale Forest Park. As you make your way through the diverse woodland, you’ll be walking among trees planted during the Great Forest Experiment of the early 1900s – an ambitious project that tested 99 different species to determine the best trees for Irish conditions. These forests have shaped modern forestry in Ireland, and now, you get to experience their beauty firsthand! 🌲🌍
The Grand Finale
Your journey ends on top of the Treetop Walk and Viewing Tower, where you’ll greet the morning with stunning 360-degree sunrise views over Avondale Forest. It’s the perfect reward for an early start!
Who Can Take Part?
This walk is suitable for all levels, and as we always say – the biggest challenge is simply getting up before sunrise! But once you’re up, you’re up – and there’s something truly special about starting your day in the peaceful, golden glow of the morning.
If you’ve never experienced sunrise like this before, trust us – it’s worth it. And if you have? Well, you already know the magic.

Time:
On the morning, both Entry gates to the venue and Registration will be open from 5am and will close at 5.30am Sharp. (Give yourselves plenty of time for travelling, parking and getting booted and suited for your hike) Parking is free of charge.
Registration for the event is very simple. Just follow the registration link below. Fill in your details as requested. Before you press “continue” to payment you have the option to register for someone else (maybe you are coming along with a friend or a family member and would like to register them as well) When you finish putting in details, press continue to payment and then you are done!
