About this Event

This conference is for adults in any stage of parenting, those expecting, foster/adopt families, and caregivers in our city! It aims to equip parents with a clear, clinically informed and biblically grounded framework for intentional parenting marked by understanding instead of exasperation. Parents will be guided to move from reactivity to intentional leadership, reflect on their own internal responses while parenting, recalibrate expectations based on developmental readiness, and apply a framework that integrates clinical insight with Christian theology.

Integrated into the conference:

  • Developmental psychology and clinical research
  • Attachment-based parenting principles
  • Scripture as a guiding framework
  • Practical application for modern parenting challenges

Whatever stage of parenting you're in, this is a conference that will leave you feeling more empowered and encouraged that your parenting can be great!

đź•‘: 09:00 AM - 09:15 AM
WELCOME & VISION
Host: Calvin Taylor: Pastor of Care & Connections

Info: We'll focus on the "why" of this parenting conference and provide a brief overview of what to expect during the day.

đź•‘: 09:30 AM - 10:45 AM
MAIN SESSION: Parenting Without Exasperation
Host: Cheryl Butler: MA, LPC, LPC-S

Info: Cheryl Butler of Truth North Counseling brings a clinically grounded and deeply relational approach to helping parents raise children with both understanding and joy. Drawing on her extensive background in education and counseling—and her work with families, couples, and teenagers—Cheryl integrates family systems, attachment theory, CBT, and biblical wisdom to address the roots of exasperation, misattunement, and pressure in the home. In this session, Cheryl will guide parents to better understand the children they have, lead with authority rooted in empathy, and foster spiritual formation without performance or comparison. With expert reinforcement and a transition into practical breakout sessions, Cheryl’s heart is to close the gap between parents and children so families can experience unity, harmony, and lasting connection.

đź•‘: 10:45 AM - 11:00 AM
BREAK

Info: Refresh your coffee, grab a snack, and enjoy some conversation after the main session before heading to Breakouts.

đź•‘: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
BREAKOUTS: Session 1 of 2

Info: These breakouts are designed to help parents apply the conference’s clinical and biblical framework in practical, life-giving ways they can use right away. There will be another breakout session following lunch (breakouts will cover the same topics) so that parents can get the most from a session they may have missed in the first breakout.

đź•‘: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
BREAKOUT 1 // Understanding Your Child’s Emotional & Developmental Wiring

Info: This breakout helps parents better understand their child’s unique temperament, emotional sensitivity, and developmental capacity—so expectations can be adjusted with wisdom and care. Parents will learn how misattunement often happens unintentionally and how small shifts in understanding can reduce unnecessary pressure and power struggles at home. Come ready for a great conversation!

đź•‘: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
BREAKOUT 2 // When Discipline Becomes Discouragement

Info: This breakout helps parents recognize when well-intended correction begins to overwhelm or discourage their child. Parents will learn how to recalibrate their approach so discipline protects connection, builds confidence, and guides children without crushing their spirit.

đź•‘: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
BREAKOUT 3 // Authority That Protects: Parenting with Clarity and Care

Info: What does authority look like when it’s both firm and relational? In this breakout, parents will learn how to lead with consistency and empathy, moving away from control or permissiveness and toward authority that fosters security, cooperation, and growth.

đź•‘: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
BREAKOUT 4 // Parenting the Big Picture: Helping Kids Feel Known by God

Info: Many parents feel pressure to “get it right” spiritually. This session invites parents to reimagine spiritual formation as a relational journey—one that honors who their child is and fosters faith through connection, curiosity, and trust rather than fear or performance. Parents will learn how to shape spiritual practices around relationship and understanding, helping children experience faith as safe, meaningful, and personal rather than something to perform.

đź•‘: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
BREAKOUT 5 // Raising Kids in a Culture of Overexposure

Info: Many parents feel unsure about how much exposure is too much, or when to step in. This session invites parents to explore how understanding their child’s developmental stage and emotional capacity can guide wise, calm decisions around technology and media—while preserving connection and open communication.

đź•‘: 12:00 PM - 12:45 PM
LUNCH

Info: Head to the Great Room for a good meal and conversation with other parents!

đź•‘: 12:45 PM - 01:45 PM
BREAKOUTS: Session 2 of 2

Info: Breakouts will cover the same topics as in session 1. These breakouts are designed to help parents apply the conference’s clinical and biblical framework in practical, life-giving ways they can use right away.

đź•‘: 01:45 PM - 02:00 PM
Closing Session & Next Steps
Host: Calvin Taylor: Pastor of Care & Connections

Info: Join us for a brief final session as we recap a great day of learning, look ahead to future Parent Workshops, and resource parents with a final tool before heading home!
