Ever wondered how to turn a raw skin into something useful? We’re going back to basics to create soft, durable leather using the world’s oldest tanning methods.
We’ll use simple materials found in nature to guide the transformation from start to finish. By the end of the workshop, you’ll see that raw pelt become a warm, beautiful, and completely biodegradable fur that you can take home!
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲’𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴:
🌿 We’ll walk through the entire transformation process together using materials found in nature. You’ll learn:
🌿 How to rehydrate dried fur
🌿 Removing meat and fat (fleshing)
🌿Applying tanning agents (fat tanning with lecithin and oil)
🌿The art of softening the skin
🌿Smoking the fur for washability
🌿Theory on skinning and preserving
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗯𝗲: The workshop is held in a beautiful valley west of Allentown on 10 acres of woodland and fields. We’ll be working by a spring-fed creek near a rustic settler’s cabin. It’s a lovely spot for stargazing and connecting with nature. 🌌
