War weighs heavily on the soul of even the most hardened observer, and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is no exception.
Often, when called upon to address such complex conflict-related situations, analysts endure a kind of weary cynicism, having repeatedly provided the same narrative-based facts to the same audience without seeming to have moved the needle of public perception. One of the reasons for this melancholy is that both the interviewer and the interviewee have often gone over the same ground in what seems like a never-ending cycle of gloom and doom.
Then, out of the blue, something changes! You are called upon to lay out the same old set of facts to someone who is new to the story, to someone whose spirit hasn't been dulled by the repetitive ravages brought on by covering the death and destruction of never-ending conflict. Scott Ritter is joining us on the Busboys stage to share his experiences as a military intelligence professional and “delve into the deeper, psychological reasons for what we see occurring in terms of individuals, nations and history” (Matthew Hoh, Former U.S. Marine officer and Diplomat). Copies of the book will be available for purchase during and after the event, and Ritter will be signing following the program.

Scott Ritter is a former Marine intelligence officer who served in the former Soviet Union, implementing arms control agreements, and on the staff of General Norman Schwartzkopf during the Gulf War, where he played a critical role in the hunt for Iraqi SCUD missiles. Mr. Ritter served as a Chief Inspector for the United Nations in Iraq, leading the search for Iraq's proscribed weapons of mass destruction. He is the author of 10 books, including Disarmament in the Time of Perestroika and Scorpion King.
