Passion Into Profit

Cottage Foods Business Training

You’ve perfected your product, now it’s time to cash in!! Whether you’re targeting local farmer’s markets, family & friends, or retail store shelves, this short-course will give you tools to ensure success.

About this event

Based on experience of having worked with 100’s of startup enterprises over the course of more than a decade, the two most overlooked factors entrepreneurs fail to account for are their costs of production and product-market-fit. This training provides easy-to-use tools for ensuring these hidden perils do not plague your business as you launch and grow.

The course begins with an in-depth look at the rise and fall of one of Colorado’s most beloved local sourdough companies. How could a product with a loyal following and an insatiable demand fail to achieve success?

The bulk of the course focuses on the two concepts of costs of production and product-market-fit. For costs of production, attendees will learn how to calculate and account for ‘true costs’ of production, including ‘hidden costs’ which are easily overlooked, particularly in cottage foods businesses. For product-market-fit, we will examine the multitude of channels available to identify and reach customers. For each channel we will lean on best practices for creating low-risk, low-cost, ‘experiments’ for testing the potential reward and profitability of customers in those channels. Each topic includes templates and resources to help in the implementation of these learnings.

Following each course there will be a 30-minute open forum where participants will be invited to pose questions or present ideas in a roundtable discussion where we can learn from each other.

This does not meet the requirements to be a Colorado Cottage Foods Producer and the food safety certificate that it requires, it is meant to supplement that course. To learn more about Colorado Cottage Food Safety Training, click .
