About this Event
This year St John's keeps its principal celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi (Thanksgiving for the Institution of the Eucharist) on the Eve of the Feast: namely Wednesday 3 June. By ancient tradition many feast days of the church begin their celebrations the evening before (think of Christmas Eve and Easter Eve).
Following the Solemn Eucharist, sung by St John's professional choir, with musical contributions also by TRANScend and the New York Gregorian Chant Project, the Procession of the Blessed Sacrament moves through our neighboring streets. After Solemn Benediction in the church we repair to St Benedict's Courtyard for drinks and cook-out.
This liturgy is the Rector's final liturgy at St John's before he moves on to his next position (in the Anglican Church of Australia).
The Presider and Preacher is Bishop Andrew St John.
Music by William Byrd, William McKie, David Yardley, Felix Graham, other composers, and Gregorian Chant.
