On May 16 at 4 PM, the Galeria Municipal de Matosinhos opens Body Landscape: Variations in Red, a solo exhibition by Portuguese artist Cristina Ataíde, curated by Miguel von Hafe Pérez.

Bringing together works created between 1994 and 2026, the exhibition presents an anthological journey through different moments of Cristina Ataíde’s artistic practice. From her early wooden sculptures to more recent paintings made with natural pigments from the Rio Tinto mines in Spain, the exhibition also includes drawings exploring the mountain as both a natural and symbolic element.

Body Landscape invites visitors into a territory where the body inhabits the landscape and seeks to reveal it; where materials such as wood, bronze, paper, and pigment establish an intimate relationship with artistic gesture; and where a predominant colour emerges, charged with multiple meanings.

The exhibition also highlights Cristina Ataíde’s important contribution to Portuguese sculpture during the transition from the 20th to the 21st century.
