About this Event

We are delighted to invite you to the Cornwall Invasive Species Forum 2026 Spring Meeting, a free event dedicated to discussing conservation strategies, invasive species management, and biodiversity recovery. This event takes place on Tuesday, 5th May 2026, from 9:30am to 1pm at Lanivet Parish Community Centre, Bodmin, PL30 5HG.


Event Highlights

The 2026 Spring Meeting will feature an engaging line-up of speakers and topics aimed at fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing:

  • Local Nature Recovery Strategy: Pip Hoskin and Beth Roberts from Cornwall Council will share insights into Cornwall’s strategy for restoring ecosystems and natural habitats.
  • Deer in the South West: Chris Mason, Deer Officer with the Forestry Commission, will provide an overview of current deer populations and challenges in conservation efforts.
  • Deer Management in the South West: Sharif Adams, Chair of the British Deer Society South West, will discuss effective deer management practices and their significance in maintaining biodiversity.
  • Grey Squirrel Management and Cornwall Squirrel Project: Jackie Foott, a member of British Red Squirrel and Red Squirrel South West, will explain the critical role of grey squirrel management in conserving Cornwall’s native wildlife and the progress of the Cornwall Squirrel Project.
  • American Mink Update: Mervyn Newman of the South West Water Vole Recovery Project will provide an update on efforts to control American mink populations and protect endangered water voles.
  • Asian Hornet Incursion Response in the UK: Michael from the Cornwall Beekeepers Association will report on the measures taken against the incursion of Asian hornets and their impacts on pollinators in the UK.

This event is an excellent opportunity to learn about pressing ecological issues affecting Cornwall and the broader South West region. Whether you are a conservationist, land manager, or simply passionate about protecting local biodiversity, you won’t want to miss this vital discussion.
