About this Event
Believing that “all behavior is communication” without judgment is the crux of Adlerian play therapy. In Adlerian play therapy, we conceptualize a client’s current strengths and difficulties in relation to their past experiences, including looking at behavior on a spectrum from maladaptive to adaptive in terms of how it meets a client’s conscious or unconscious needs (which is not the same as being well-behaved vs. naughty). Understanding the components of Adlerian conceptualization (e.g. Crucial Cs, Goals of Misbehavior, Personality Priorities, etc.) from a trauma-informed lens can help provide a road map both for assessment and treatment within Adlerian play therapy with individuals, families, and groups.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the purpose of conceptualization within Adlerian play therapy.
- Describe the core Adlerian conceptualization components of the Crucial Cs, Goals of Misbehavior, and Personality Priorities.
- Identify at least two concepts of trauma-informed care applicable to Adlerian play therapy.
- Apply at least one core Adlerian conceptualization component in planning an intervention for a client.
- Apply at least one core Adlerian conceptualization component to either long or short-term treatment planning for a client.
- Incorporate trauma-informed principles into Adlerian play therapy conceptualization.
