About this Event
This special guided tour explores the H. George Fink Studio Building (1925), a landmark of early Coral Gables architecture and a foundational expression of Mediterranean Revival design.
Participants will learn how George Merrick’s dream of a “City Beautiful” was brought to life by a team of visionary artists and architects, including his relative H. George Fink, whose studio became a hub for architectural innovation in the 1920s. The tour examines the building’s urban composition, sculpted outdoor spaces, and eclectic stylistic influences—Gothic, Renaissance, and Moorish—drawn from across the Mediterranean world.
Inside, guests will discover exquisite details such as Venetian Gothic windows, ornate cast stonework, patterned tiles (some imported from North Africa), coffered ceilings, and symbolic inscriptions inspired by the Alhambra. The tour also highlights the building’s legacy and its preservation by the City of Coral Gables as a living link to the city’s architectural heritage.
