About this Event
Conversations Matter provides a program of education and research to improve healthcare communication and supportive care across regional cancer centres in Victoria.
We warmly invite health professionals (clinical staff) working in regional cancer centres and linked health services in Victoria to attend this virtual workshop.
This is an interactive workshop and you will leave your camera on and need a working microphone for the session.
About the workshop
Encouraging patients to improve health behaviours in order to reduce the incidence of disease or manage chronic disease such as cancer is a task that many health professionals do each day.
Core skills in effective patient-clinician communication provide the foundation for facilitating successful behaviour change attempts and patient outcomes regardless of the behaviour change model or approach used.
This interactive webinar will introduce participants to key skills, tools and strategies to facilitate health behaviour change conversations including building a trusting relationship, initiating health behaviour change and engaging in ‘change talk’.
Workshop Learning Objectives
On completion of this workshop participants will:
- Develop an understanding of the core communication skills and strategies for health behaviour change such as building rapport, building trust, identifying shared objectives and forming partnerships
- Consider Motivational Interviewing and Shared Decision-Making frameworks and their role in health behaviour change conversations
