About this Event
📚✨ Celebrate Banned Books Week with us at Whose Books on Wednesday, October 8th at 7PM for an evening that honors the power of storytelling and resistance.
Join Jasminne Mendez, Pura Belpré Honor Award–winning author of Aniana del Mar Jumps In, as she shares her bold new YA novel-in-verse, The Story of My Anger. In her YA debut, Mendez introduces us to Yulieta Lopez—a Texas teen who is done staying silent. Angry at the racism in her school’s theatre program, furious at book banning efforts in her community, and tired of playing the role of the “good girl,” Yuli sparks a revolution of her own.
When she and her friends launch a guerrilla theatre club, she finally steps into her truest role: a young woman unafraid to fight back.Mendez will be in conversation with poet and author Natty Carrizosa, known for her celebrated work Crown.
She amazes her audience as she speaks about the beauty and appreciation of the diversity that lives within us all.
In a time when books are being challenged and voices are being silenced, this event is a tribute to those who speak up and write back. Don’t miss it!
