The National Trauma Institute estimates that severe bleeding accounts for greater than 35% of pre-hospital deaths of persons with traumatic emergencies. Just as important as learning CPR, learning effective techniques to control blood loss from traumatic injuries could prove to save your life or that of a loved one.
With a severe injury, a person can bleed out in 3-5 minutes. On average, EMS is 7-14 minutes away. You will never want to use it, but this is a skill that can help ensure survival until vital emergency care is reached.
Persons experiencing a major arterial bleed will be at extreme risk of death or serious long-term effects and your quick knowledgeable actions could be the difference between life or death. You will not always have your first aid kit with you; therefore this course will prepare you to use commercially available products, along with improvised methods to control severe arterial bleeding,
In this course, you will learn:
- How to estimate blood loss
- How to identify arterial or veinous bleeding
- Steps to effective bleeding control
- How and when to apply a compression bandage
- How and when to apply a torniquet
- How and when to pack a wound
- Penetrating injuries to the torso and how to apply a chest seal
- How to treat for shock
We do not believe in online trauma courses designed to check a box, we believe in providing quality in-person training that will serve you well should you come across a severe emergency and need to fall back on this knowledge and training to control severe bleeding when seconds count. In our opinion, being hands on and performing the skills with training aids will best meet this goal, therefore we only offer this training in person.
Upon successful completion of the 1 to 2-hour course and skill practical, you will receive a two-year certification in "Save A Life: Control The Bleed".
