is a nonprofit organization on a mission to help Atlanta Public Schools students access, afford, and earn postsecondary credentials. Achieve Atlanta's vision is that Atlanta is a city where race and income no longer predict postsecondary success and upward mobility.
is a national education nonprofit that brings paradigm-shifting research, advocacy, and impact consulting together to increase educational equity and help our partners reach ambitious goals for student success.
The first report in TNTP's series, , has been released. This initial publication shares the TNTP vision, theory of action, and examines how high school experiences shape economic and social mobility in adulthood. Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1997, TNTP discovered that:
- Few young people who experienced poverty in adolescence experienced meaningful economic or social mobility in adulthood.
- Strong academic outcomes significantly increased the likelihood of mobility.
- Those who most needed a strong academic foundation were the least likely to get access to it.
- Strong academic outcomes alone didn’t outweigh the effects of poverty.
To build a better path, they have identified five interconnected factors that we believe will drive economic and social mobility for young people: strong academics, career-connected learning, social capital, personal support, and civic engagement.
