Ever wanted to start a garden but don’t have the space or aren’t sure where to start? Want to save money on groceries? Attend the Grow Your Own Food Workshop, Container Garden Giveaway and Farmers’ Market event on Sat., April 25 at the Newport News Early Childhood Development Center - 1500 Jefferson Ave.
Container Gardening allows you to grow food in small spaces such as a kitchen, window, or patio in containers such as cups, flowerpots, grow bags, or plastic totes.
During this event you can:
- Receive FREE starter vegetable plants or FREE seeds for vegetables
- Get a FREE tree or free gardening supplies
- Shop with local small farmers
- Meet local farmers
- Learn to grow your own food
- Learn how to build a rain garden to reduce flooding
- Learn about more programs and resources in the area
Trees, starter plants, and seeds are are on a first come, first served basis while supplies last. You must register to attend the workshops. Registration is first-come, first-served. One plant per person and one tree per household. You do not have to attend the workshop to participate in the plant giveaway, community fair, or shop at the farmers’ market.
