Get ready for four days of singing, dancing, and performing at the Conservatory Musical Theatre Showcase. Students from the University of Regina Conservatory of Performing Arts’ youth musical theatre programs are sure to dazzle and delight the audience with their triple threat status.
Performances on DAY 3 will include the following (in performance order):
Senior Glee (Friday class) presents The Granny Awards. Tonight's the night we've all been waiting for! Yes, Granny, who has retired from show business, will be honoring all our favorite fairy tale characters! Who will win Best Vocalist? Best Dramatic Scene? Best Choreography? And the coveted Best Villain Award? And don't forget to keep an eye on that nasty Big Bad Wolf as he tries to steal the treasured Granny Award. The Granny Awards is written by Janet Gardner. Artwork by Tate Nation, used with permission by the artist. The Granny Awards is directed by Chip McDaniel.
Senior Glee (Thursday class) presents Off Their Rockers. Off Their Rockers is a fun-filled one act musical play. Our story takes place in a senior centre where all is quiet and calm and perhaps a bit boring; that is until the Center Director decides to use music and dance to bring fun and excitement into the lives of the seniors. Through songs and dances that were very much a part of the seniors' past, the Director, along with friends and family, encourage the seniors to get “off their rockers” and join in on the fun. Familiar songs include: Old Time Rock and Roll, The Banjo's Back in Town, Rock Around the Clock, At the Hop, The Peppermint Twist, Dancin' in the Street. You will be delighted to jump onto the dance bandwagon in this fun-filled and uplifting musical! Composed by Jill and Michael Gallina. Artwork by Peter Francis, used with permission by MB Artists. Off Their Rockers is directed by Katlyn Redding and Gillian Engen.
Senior Glee (Saturday class) presents Annie KIDS. Annie KIDS features everyone’s favorite little redhead in her very first adventure. With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy. Annie KIDS is a shortened 30-minute adaption of the Tony-Award winning musical. Book by Thomas Meehan. Music by Charles Strouse. Lyrics by Martin Charnin. Presented on Broadway by Mike Nichols. Annie KIDS is directed by Karen Rose with assistance from Tessa Macknak and Elizabeth Madsen.
There will be a short intermission between each Senior Glee group to reset the stage and organize performers.
Tickets are $12.60 in advance or $15.75 at the door (inclusive of fees and taxes). Seating is not assigned. Tickets can be purchased from the Darke Hall Box Office or online here: https://darkehall.ca/events/conservatory-musical-theatre-showcase---day-3
