Social media influencers are a big idea today, but there have always been people whose influence was so great, it reached across generations. J. S. Bach was one of those people. Dr. Brenda Leonard will play a few movements from the Bach cello suites and portions of works by 20th century composers, including Max Reger, Benjamin Britten, and Dorothy Rudd Moore, who were influenced by Bach, often in striking ways. This lecture-recital gives a fascinating look at where composers get their ideas.
Brenda Leonard is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Classical Cape May. She teaches cello online as well as offering online music history courses through the Center for Modern Aging, Princeton. She earned a doctorate in cello performance from the University of South Carolina. Brenda also works for Cape May MAC’s Museum Education, coordinating and teaching in their Lunch & Learn program. When not involved in music activities or traveling to visit her children and grandchildren, Brenda likes to read and cook. Her husband, Alan, is the rector of the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Cape May.
