In light of 'Learn About Composting Day' on the 29th of May, we would like to invite you to join us for an amazing composting workshop! The average Australian produces approximately 300kg of food waste each year, with approximately 90% of that going straight into landfill. Furthermore, approximately half of what goes into the average residential rubbish bin can either be recycled or composted. Our waste management systems in Australia are, unfortunately, weak and under-regulated. It is up to us to make conscious, positive decisions in how we manage our waste, and composting our food scraps, rather than throwing them into landfill is an amazing start.
This workshop will be aimed at beginner to intermediate levels. So, whether you have never composted before, have tried composting but it has not been successful, or you are currently composting and looking for practical tips and knowledge, then this is for you!
We want to educate, motivate and excite you about composting; opening you up to how much of a positive impact composting can have on the planet. At the very minimum, composting is one of the easiest ways that we, as individuals, can reduce our impact on climate change. On top of this, then also producing an incredible resource that we can feed back into our soil and gardens.
By the end of this workshop, we hope to have armed you with the knowledge and confidence to create your own compost pile either at home, in your apartment complex or your local park.
We will walk our way through the basics, how to manage your compost pile, the basic sciences behind what’s actually going on, different types of composting (and what is best for your living situation) and what to do once you finally reach that amazing end goal of producing finished compost. We will also look at our new composting hub and how we manage and process over 150kg of food scraps every week.
We will be getting our hands dirty, so please wear appropriate clothing. Gloves, refreshments and snacks will be provided.
We look forward to you joining us!
