About this Event

What you will learn

In this session you will learn what composting is and how it benefits the soil and the plants you grow. You will learn what are the different components to achieve great compost and common mistakes to avoid (including what to do with ‘compostable’ packaging).

We will also explore the pros and cons of different compost bins and methods, so you know which is the best solution for your garden.

This event is part of a workshop series on sustainable gardening. Check our events page for other workshops.

Facilities and session format

The workshop will be delivered at Hillside Garden by our gardens manager, Ana Oliveira. There will be a mixture of theory and practical demonstrations in our polytunnel and amenity areas. The session will have moments for discussion and brainstorming. Due to space restrictions, it will be limited to 10 participants.

There will be a break halfway through the session and refreshments will be provided.

A digital certificate of attendance will be issued for anyone interested.

Accessibility and practical information

Hillside Garden is fully wheelchair accessible, and we have an accessible Portaloo on site. The polytunnel will provide shelter from the elements but won’t be heated. In hot conditions, the session will be entirely delivered in the garden.

Bring clothes and footwear to remain comfortable outdoors.

Parking is available on Roman Pavement and Hillside Garden is a 2min walk from there. For more information on how to find us, including bus routes, visit How to Find Green Synergy – Green Synergy
