The London Community Resource Centre (LCRC) and the Thames Region Ecological Association (TREA) are excited to host this annual event, featuring high-quality compost generously donated by TRY Recycling. This initiative provides Londoners with nutrient-rich organic matter to help local gardens flourish while supporting community food and environmental programs.Event Details:

- Time: 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (or while supplies last)
- Location: Richmond North Office Centre parking lot, 235 North Centre Road (North-East corner of Fanshawe Park Road and Richmond Street, behind the Loblaws at Masonville)

About the Compost:
The compost provided at this event is created from London’s own yard waste and leaves. Note that this specific material is derived strictly from yard waste and does not contain Green Bin organic materials.
Compost is a vital soil amendment that improves the overall health of your garden. By adding organic matter back into the earth, you help your soil retain moisture, improve its structure, and provide a slow-release source of essential nutrients for your plants. It is particularly effective for breaking up heavy clay or adding body to sandy soils.
Recommended Mixing Ratios and Soil Blends:
To achieve the best results for your specific project, consider these mixing options:
- Potting Mix for Containers: For pots or raised beds, mix 1 part compost with 1 part peat moss and 1 part perlite. This blend ensures a lightweight environment with excellent drainage for developing roots.
- Garden Bed Refresh: To revitalise existing outdoor soil, mix 1 part compost with 2 parts black earth or topsoil.
- Lawn Care: Use the compost as a top-dressing by spreading a thin layer (approximately 1 centimetre) over your grass. Gently rake it in to encourage a healthier, greener lawn.
Logistics and Donations:
The compost is distributed to the community in exchange for monetary donations. These funds are essential in helping LCRC and TREA reach their goals regarding food security, community education, and environmental advocacy.
- Please bring your own containers or bags from home to fill.
- If you do not have a container, we will have bags available on-site for a small fee.
- Volunteers will be on hand to assist you with filling your containers.
