In 2020 Piano Lunaire commissioned an extended work for solo piano from Christopher Mayo. The result has been the distinctive Reel which now receives its world premiere in November 2024. Christopher Mayo—with Piano Lunaire—has curated a finely-tuned program to complement his own centerpiece including a new commission from British colleague Charlie Piper: In Suspension. Further artistic connections for Mayo and Sherkin (who both spent time in the UK) feature a stunning solo work inspired by the surrealist painting The Melancholy of Departure by Giorgio de Chirico; the music is composed by David Sawer.
This NYC program welcomes baritone Nathaniel Sullivan to sing four poignant understated and haunting songs by British composer Emily Hall from her 2020 Arrangements – Made in Lockdown songbook.
